Cheryl Ting, preferably known as Cheryl Plankton, is in all sense, a very ordinary girl. She laughs out loud (or rather, howls with laughter) and has fun along with her cranky and witty friends without having to worry about her image. She does bite when she is annoyed. A very emotional person, she keeps every friendship, every memory alive, in her heart. That is her. Living her life being happy, living hoping that the people around her will be happy, and living to glorify God.
Born and bred in Johor Bahru, she had remained in her comfort zone for 18 years. Educated in SJK (C ) Pei Hwa and SMK Seri Perling, she is grateful to her teachers and parents for being able to pass her public examinations with flying colours. She rejects the idea of having tuition, because of her reluctance to have extra homework on top of schoolwork, which leaves her to depend only on her teachers, parents, friends and herself to succeed. After completing her Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE) examination, she bid farewell to the life of an Ausmatian in Sunway College Johor Bahru and the role as Sunway College Student Ambassador; she is about to leave to the Land of the Roti Canai to pursue her aspirations of becoming a dentist.
Like most teenagers, Cheryl Ting spends a big portion of her time on social networking. Facebook, Twitter and Blogger are the first sites that she will log into if she has access to the Internet. However, she has greatest passion for novels. From Nancy Drew, Harry Potter series, Twilight Saga, Darren Shan Saga to novels by Mitch Albom, give her a novel and she will bury her nose into it, staying up till the wee hours of the night, just to finish it. Novels are her best caffeine. She saves up for New York Times #1 Bestsellers despite the fact that she finds novels in Malaysia are too pricey for comfort. She finds joy in collecting stamps, too, but her collection is limited as there are few stamp collectors to trade stamps with nowadays.
At the end of 2009, lost and without direction (not exaggerating) after SPM, she began her quest for more information on tertiary education and scholarships. That was how she stumbled upon ReCom by chance. With all the helpful moderators, administrators and friendly members, ReCom became a place she can call home. Since then, she has been spending a lot of time on the forum. Undeniably, ReCom is the best place to linger around, chatting with fellow members, obtaining and sharing of information and experience.
It is her honour to join the ranks of the ReCom Staff as a writer for ReMag. Filled with the joy of working alongside people with “colourful usernames”, she found fun in the teamwork, comradeship and friendship. As for writing, she has failed on her attempts on fiction and debates. Instead, she writes about her thoughts and views on random stuff, about what is on her mind, and on what she sees. Sometimes inspiration comes from the books she read. Though it may be nerve-wrecking thinking about what to write, she enjoys it. She believes that the more effort you put into writing, the greater the satisfaction when it is done and the greater the sincerity of your work. She hopes the best for ReMag, and has faith that ReMag will be able to appeal to the Malaysian community out there.
“Ancora imparo - I am still learning. There is no limit to learning. I hope to learn, to gain, to be stronger, to be a better person.” – Cheryl Ting
