Hi. Im 18 years old male Malaysian student and will travel alone to the USA next week using MAS once my US Visa get approved on this Monday. Please give me tips regarding solo traveling, what to expect, DOs and DONTs during flight and transits, security, and anything that you would like to share with me. It could be your own experience, general knowledge, or what others had shared with you.

This is my route:

KLIA -> Taipei -> Los Angeles -> Chicago -> Nashville (Final Destination)

I'm expecting a smooth journey and want to avoid as much hassle as possible. So I think by asking recommers for help I will be able to achieve that since this is a huge community.

Please avoid writing unnecessary replies like why do I have to travel alone, why am I going to Nashville, etc. Thank you.

Don't look mysterious, don't stare at airport security, DO NOT TAKE PHOTOS IN AND AROUND AIRPORTS, act calm and civil, obey customs officers unquestioningly. Essentially until you're out of the airport just follow signs and follow instructions, opening your mouth is not required. When you give your passport to the customs officer, they will ask some questions which you should answer with short, clear answers. Don't lie, don't launch into a vitriol of useless grandmother stories. Also don't be nervous, they won't eat you.

When you transit be sure to check in for the transit flight immediately after you land. Don't delay or you'll regret it. Other than that just try to get as much sleep as you can on the plane because you'll need to be alert in LA and Taipei airports, both are very crowded airports so you'll need to be alert.

Anything else you specifically want to know? Enjoy listening to country music

as i have travelled a lot, i'd like to remind you that you should adjust ur sleeping hours according to the time zone of ur final destination. this is to avoid jetlag that will be very dragging on ur mental and physical agility upon arrival. for example, if you were to reach the US in the afternoon or evening, resist the temptation to sleep immediately after ur flight. try to sleep only after 10pm that night so you will lessen the effects of jetlag. otherwise, you will experience reverse nocturnal sleeping habits. meaning you'll sleep during daytime and stay awake during the night. as you will be travelling alone, you should also adjust all ur watchs, handphone clocks to the destination time zone to avoid any inconvenience. cheers and enjoy ur flight!
