Wow, this IS really fast... I have never seen Google take anything out of beta this fast before

I guess this reflects their ambition to speed up the adoption of the browser market? Maybe the word "beta" is a bit of put-off for the general internet populace. Google is even willing to allow adblock extension now by the way.

nah... Gmail is still very popular despite it's beta tag

Regarding the adblock extension, I think that alone will be enough to sway a lot of Firefox users over Then again, Google puts their adverts to their search results anyway, and most of the time their search results are enough to generate revenue for them...

I knew you were going to mention gmail. But ya, if everything goes well, I will likely be one of the swingers

Too bad the linux version seems to be taking forever, or I'd jump on the bandwagon too. I tried to get my parents to use it but it's hard because I've only just managed to get them used to firefox (with addons chosen by me of course ) instead of IE heh

Dito on the Mac version as well... But seems like the Mac version will be ready earlier than the Linux version (juhuu)

Edit:
I think I am currently biased towards Firefox 3.1 now that Firefox had built in support for Touchpad gestures on the Mac (yay!). Details here.

And latest tests from Cnet had revealed that the new Tracemonkey and v8 Java Script engine are (almost) dead even in terms of rendering speed.

Wow. It seems like this thread went Lazarus....

Ok. I've been using Chrome (almost) solely, mainly because I don't utilize a lot of extensions/addons. The best thing about Chrome is the sheer efficiency, though I kinda lament the lack of customization.

And IMHO, going out of beta is just a symbolic gesture, and at most will help with smoothing out the kinks. (redtape?)

So, how do you guys find Chrome, in the end? Worth the swinging? Or would you still prefer using Firefox? I don't use a lot of extensions either, so I would try Chrome. I've just started downloading it.

I don't know if you guys are finding this problem, but I noticed that as Firefox progresses, the starting time for Firefox to open seems to be longer too. In the older versions of Firefox, I noticed that the starting time is shorter. Now, Firefox seems to require a lot of memory and time to start up the program.

Comments?

Yeah, I'm having this problem. Sometimes, Firefox seemed to take forever to start especially on my old machine. On the contrary, Chrome is pretty fast. So, for simple web browsing, I'll vote for Chrome though I missed Firefox extensions.

Well, I'm now using Google Chrome as I'm writing this post. So far, it hasn't crashed. I could also run Youtube videos without any problem, so that rules out now that Flash crashes Google Chrome (since Youtube runs on Flash, too).

I am not a great extensions user, so I wouldn't miss Firefox so much. I guess I'll be using Google Chrome as my main browser, since it starts so fast. If I really need to use any extensions, then I'll switch over to Firefox.
