Can't Enter Public University At All

Referring to No Record of My University Application?(http://www.malaysiakini.com/letters/85176), it is completely unacceptable that I have to waste my time calling MOHE and waiting when MOHE tells me that I can't do anything, not even appeal as my records are not in their system. I sent many emails and approached several political parties and USM regarding my situation.

Up till now only MCA has replied me asking me to appeal through them to MOHE, which I did. I put Pharmacy in USM and Veterinary Science in UPM as my two appeal choices. After which there was complete silence from all parties about the status of my appeal. I gave up thinking that nothing would come out of it.

Then I was called two weeks later by someone at the ministry who tells me I can't appeal for Pharmacy and asks me to change it to something else. I am unable to comprehend this distinction between Pharmacy and other courses that I cannot appeal for it. So I changed it to Genetics And Molecular Biology in UM.

The results of the appeal were announced last Monday, and when I tried entering my IC number and Angka Giliran to check the results, an error screen shows up saying that my Angka Giliran is wrong when it's definitely correct. It boggles the mind that after all that I've been through MOHE still doesn't take my application and information seriously, displaying such sheer incompetence.

I called MOHE again and the reply was the same, which was they didn't know why there was such a problem and that they would call me back. On the same day they did to inform me that I could actually enter the site based on my IC number alone and that I did not succeed in my appeal.

This is really frustrating as the reason I took STPM after getting straight A1s for SPM was so that I would be able to enter public university and now I'm not able to, even with all my effort and toil. If I am not good enough to enter public university may I please know what would the requirements be? Dare the Minister of Higher Education explain this fiasco that has occurred as well as lay bare the selection process for university entry and appeal?

What happened to your first application that you didn't get even a place in local public universities? What's your results?

The main cause for people failed to enter public university is due to poor result. Of couse, there are other cases as well, like you have left out anything important to fill in. Time is running out, hope your appeal will be answered soon. Good luck.

The link to my first letter is there...I already have the appeal results and it says I failed...so does it mean im not qualified to enter?

I'm sorry to hear that. Perhaps you should go to Putrajaya and confront the persons in charge and ask for explanation, or go to press with your case... It's rather ridiculous that such results don't deserve a place in local universities.

It's not that you are not qualified to enter. I find it weird that your record is not in the system considering that you are sure that you've sent in your application. I think that you should try miracle_seed's suggestions. Letters hardly will work, they may just end up in the dustbin so try a more proactive action.

I myself am a STPM 2007 student as well, and I didn't get any offer either. My results are not as good as yours, just average. But what really irritates me is that people with lower CGPA than me actually got into in-demand courses like engineering and sciences while I couldn't get any offer, not even after appealing through both MOHE and MCA.

But of course, with your results you can also try to apply for scholarships or for foreign universities. If our Malaysian public universities don't want us, then we may as well look for other places that will take us.

I am feel emphatic to your situation here. By the way, it is advisable that you search the printout again, hopefully you make it in the second attempt. Since this is what they need, you just give it to them. About the reference number, might it be your application number? Or better still, bring along the printout if you are managed to locate and ask the officers in charge about the reference number. Though your result is good, but the determinant here is the printout. Just like if you want to win a court case, you had to have evidence.

Most importantly, you must not give up. There are many students who got the offers and rejected them. In this case, there must be plenty places left out. Good luck.

In view of what has happened, I can only say that they aren't interested in helping me at all, and I've been told that it's useless to even go all the way to Putrajaya as they will not entertain me....because I don't know any big shots. Anyway what really irks me is they didn't even offer me anything after going through all that and people with worse results and qualifications are actually getting the courses that I want...I have completely lost faith and this is just to inform people that this is happening, not that I'm asking a place from them anymore.

If you really want to make your case known to public, you should try to write to newspapers, it will get much attention than in ReCom...

I have sent my first letter to all English papers, and it wasn't published except on Malaysiakini. Looking at things I highly doubt they would publish my second letter anyway even though I have sent it to them again.....it's out on Malaysiakini again though...
