The word proessional here does imply that the maids who are being hired have undergo intense and professional training and get the legal licence to embark on maiding industry. It is often undeniable that foreign maids nowadays are unreliable and causes much trouble and often having clashes with the host.
Perhaps it is a good point here to say that maids would be the one who are in hot demand in future particularly in Asian countries where most of the busy schedule often made the child of a working parents left uncared at home.
In future, there would even be courses on maid training in correspondence with the high demand for a maid.

maybe someday some sorta professional qualification is needed for a maid, then we can be sure that the maid has at least gone thru vigorous training of the arts and sciences of housekeeping. the papers once said that a housewive's job actually warrants thousands of dollars in payment, and that a housewife is comparable to her husband's job in the industry, and that she shouldnt be descriminated against, as how the feminists would put it. maybe our future pay scales for maids should start by using those statistics to evaluate their "value" and "worth". housewives who voluntarily lose their jobs to maids can apply for the professional qualification of mahjong player instead.

I think it'll be engineers. E&E probably, as more and more electronic applications in lots of different fields nowadays; automotive, aerospace, domestic appliances etc.

Those taking pure maths may consider taking up an additional hard or social sciences subject like econs, IT, mechanics etc and apply their maths there. And we do need mathematicians in the industry. For example, the one who developed the computer program that led to the development of the F-117A was a mathematician whose name I've forgotten.

Probably we should expand our research base and create independent labs outside those attached to unis, a bit like Los Alamos, Sandia etc. About time we start developing our own technologies, right?

as for me. i would say that Occupational/enviromental safety and health engineering would be of great demand.
Seems Dosh is blooming nowadays,, with the new standardisation of our Acts and regulation, and a lot of implementation refering to the UK, Dosh is serious about safety issues,, undeniable that safety is non negotiable.. Most risky tasks are requiring competency,, not only in Malaysia but also in Singapore. The increasing awareness of the enviroment, health and safety is putting EHS/OHS in increasing demand.

I think teachers is one of the demand, because now we can see the size of the student become bigger and bigger , but the teachers' size remain almost constant .

oil and gas all the way... lack of awareness lies within our region i blame, ignorance is around the air i say, but do some research, you'll see where oil and gas is heading in the future, it's growing rapidly, especially when they declared petronas as one of the new seven sisters..

For me, I believe that researchers especially in the field of biotechnology and medicine will be highly sought after in the future. More and more scientists will come up with the ideas of utilizing different kinds of natural resources to synthesise artificial products. For example, they will keep developing biofuel of higher quality.

In fact, one of my teachers said told me that the world ten years ago belongs to the physicians, but the world ten years after will belong to the biologists. Who knows, anything might happen.

With the advancing of tech for the incoming future , our environment has been by and large being deteriorated.

So there is probably an increasing demand for environmentalists.

Ironically, many aren't favour to study the weird courses like science environment.

EE or BA those two would set you to do just about anything you want.

However on the contrary we had an english major, although shes 40+ now, named vice president of marketing last month. So go figure. A major in universities is just a stepping stone, an evidence that you have a desire to learn and achieve and perhaps do home work?

Just my thought for you guys.
