one of my frens manage to change her course from applied chemistry to pharmacy and i believe you too can try it..no harm trying rite?

or other ways would be finish ur degree first than only consider continue to master of pharmacy. I heard there is a possibility for u to do so since we pharm student do learn biochem too. and biochem is an intergral and the difficult one ..

hi there....
may i know what is the qualification to enter foundation in UM?
can SPM student enroll in it?
or just STPM or matriculation students are qualified?
I surfed the website already but in the qualification form there, there is a box in a column stated for calon bumiputera sahaja...
Is the foundation study available only to bumiputera???

PS: I m interested in architecture, so hope to know more about the course

Yes, agree..UM does accept A level students and even those students who are unable to continue their courses overseas as being sponsored by JPA for some reasons are eligible to apply to UM.

I am taking pharm now, but not in UM...
While u may try ur luck a bit, y not u continue ur degree first then only consider moving to pharm fields? i know it is pretty hard to move up the ladder to become a pharmacist as u may have to repeat the whole courses again, but if u do have the strong passion to be in pharm fields, i don't see why you don't have urself a chance to become a pharmacist and enjoy this professional rewarding career.

While my sister is also a pharmacy student, i strongly encouraged u to try to appeal though i know the chances are slim, but yet pharm and biochem are two different careers though they are somewhat related ,considering the dispensing rights being the most basic distingusher!

basically, pharmacy undergraduate programmed can be divided into 2 types...
1.clinical pharmacy..also known as community pharmacy...which always stated as Bachelor in Pharmacy
2. pharmaceutical science and technology..normally they will say Bachelor in Pharmaceutical Science & Technology

if i was not mistaken..in Msia..only offered the no 1 ..i am not sure....better u check it first for more details.
no 1 ..is for those who r interested to work in hospital..open their own pharmacy...be a consultant..they r more likely to meet ppl...etc..so the syllabus are more about..clinical..learn bout name of drugs..its pharmacological effects..

2nd option...they also learn bout the previous things..but not too specific coz they r more majored in science n technology
they learn more details..n more towards industrial..
they learn from a to z..
example..
panadol..it is analgesic drug..the active substance is paracetamol..so they will learn..where it comes from..if it came from plant..what plant..how to extract it..n make it into powder..how to make it into tablet..n what is the mechanism behind this and that...y must be in a form of tableT? can we make it in a form of liquid preparation?..what is others ingredients beside paracetamol..dosage strength..n they also learn bout what type of process that is suitable to make the tablet..there are many types of process..n may types of machine that r used in industrial sectors..n yes..they do learn bout all those machine steps by steps...so..2nd option..they learn more details bout all the drugs .themselves.. they r not very exposed with the case studies
( clinical students normally will get this thing).

so..if u're planning to further ur study in pharmacy field..it is better to know ur interest..coz diff ppl got diff talents and prefer diff working environment.
both programmed are beneficial..and has their pro's n con's
if u liked in making business n be a leader...create new products..then u can go to industrial..it is more about...quality control..research..marketing..financial.. it has a broad prospects..but not all pharmacy students like to go to industrial..coz they think it is boring..eventhough highest salary for pharmacist come from industrial.

you can become a scientist if you taking pharmacy or maybe bachelor of life sciences like biochem and biotech..u create a new drug / modified a drug , increase its safety..if it was succeed. trust me whole wide world will need it.u can just sit and goyang kaki at home..coz u're already rich.you can also own a company, produce ur own medicine / health products which pattern under your company's brand name..

Elaine, i guess this would be a rather good news for you.

There is actually a lots more options to explore nowadays. We are not being restricted to study just till the boundary our degree provide us. In facts, we have the right to go for whatever we want.

university of sydney does provide this golden oppurtunity for those who wanted to study pharmacy but getting into other degree.
Quote:
The Faculty offers a graduate-entry course, the Master of Pharmacy. This course provides an alternative mode of entry into the pharmacy profession for applicants with a previous university degree, and is open to both local and international students. On completion of this degree, and following a compulsory pre-registration training period that is required for all candidates, graduates will be eligible for registration with the Pharmacy Board in their state. Once registered, graduates will be able to practice as a pharmacist.

The Master of Pharmacy is designed for individuals who have a previous Bachelor's degree (in any field) who wish to pursue a career in Pharmacy. The Master of Pharmacy enables such candidates to complete their Pharmacy studies in a minimum of two years, rather than the four years of the undergraduate Bachelor of Pharmacy degree This degree is open to both local and international students.

I wonder in the bold as stated, any degree holders are relevant to apply, but i guess it would be real suit to those who has the most related degree like life sciences.

Oh wow..are you planning to do that? Sounds attractive..one can be a pharmacist and a Masters degree holder within 5 years..instead of taking a degree in pharm for 4 years. But through this way, do you have dispensing rights of a pharmacist? Is the qualification the same as a pharmacist who did a degree in pharmacy?

Oh , well, It depends on result and a lots of factors in facts have to be considered.i just share with you the alternatives ways if you are the one who fervently wanted to be a pharmacist.
As quoted from the site:
Quote:
On completion of this degree, and following a compulsory pre-registration training period that is required for all candidates, graduates will be eligible for registration with the Pharmacy Board in their state. Once registered, graduates will be able to practice as a pharmacist.
So, the qualfication is recognised and you will have the master of pharmacy from overseas university qualification and its licence as well. In addition it gives you the advantages of practising in Australia or, if you are just interested to practise in malaysia, you just have have to register under the Malaysian Pharmacy Board.

Well, there is actually another Unversity ,that is Ohio State University that offers Doctor of Pharmacy for any undergraduate major.

Quote:
The entry-level Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) is a four-year graduate professional program. Applicants are now required to have completed a Bachelors Degree prior to matriculation into the PharmD program. Applicants are not required to have prior pharmacy education; any undergraduate major is acceptable as long as prerequisites are met.

I believe there are actually a lots of universities , mostly overseas that offer pharmacy qualifications to those who have another undergrads major, in the hope for a chance to practise as a pharmacist.
However, the admission requirement for a master or PhD programme varies between departments, faculties and also between universities.
Hence, it is very important to check with the respective DEPARTMENT/SCHOOL/CENTRE etc. who you wish to enroll yourself in to see if you hit the requirement or not.
Thus, do not let go of your dreams seeing that the door of oppurtunities are open to you.
Cheers!
