Private sector employers secretly prefer men to women (and justifiably so - unless someone has designs to marry the female recruit) so I guess it balances out

For me, i would prefer female teacher to give lecture on Language and Biology subjects while the male teacher for mathematics and physics...

IMO, as long as they master the skill and way of teaching, anyone could be a better teacher regardless of gender...

man or woman make better teachers? man or woman teaches better in certain subjects? nonsense. all my form 6 teachers rock. they are not only mere educators, they are our mummies and daddies. eventhough sometimes they have conflict of some sort... well as SMART children, we never take sides but just watch. lol.

In general, I think women do make better teachers than men do, in the sense that female teachers are more patient and motherly than male teachers. But in terms of teaching quality and the ability to control class, I cannot agree the statement that women make better teachers than men. In fact, male teachers are sometimes less moody than female teachers. They are less likely to "turn crazy and mad" suddenly without justified reasons, but female teachers sometimes do.

In a general sense, both genders have their drawbacks on becoming teachers. The society and even students themselves tend to perceive female teachers are better than male teachers because of their strong stereotype. They see and are taught by more female teahchers than male ones. And this brings such stereotype.

Generally women is better than men in teaching language subjects , history , art and biology . On the other hand , men can teach better in mathematics , add maths , physic and chemistry , from what I observe . But , there are always exceptionals .

You must be having lots of dramas in school

Male teachers-Chinese, Bio, Maths, Add Maths, Sejarah, Physics(tuition), English(tuition)
Female teachers-BM, English, Chemistry, Physics, EST, P.Moral, Add Maths(tuition)

During my SPM year(2007), my subjects teachers were quite balanced(when we compare the gender of the teachers).

For my school, the number of male teachers are increasing tremendously. I think no matter what gender the teacher is, the most important thing is the teacher has the heart, the passion in his/her teaching career.

It depends on how you define the scope of teaching.
Men are better when it comes to inspiring the students about the field, making the students passionate about what they learn. They are able to introduce a subject more interestingly compared to women. A good example would be my all time idol- Richard Feynman.

However, it is undeniable that women are more patient and may be better teachers for those routine stuff that require repeating exercises.

I am not sure whether making generalisation based on gender makes any good sense at all. For example, for all I know, I am much more patient than many girls out there. And I do know many girls who are passionate and is able to motivate their friends / students too.

Just to add a note, that was what I concluded from my personal observation, it's a product of my own experience. It may not be true to others, like you. But so far, this "theory" seems true to me most of the time.

By the way, most opinions that one forms are derived from generalisations from one's own experience, are they not? Say, I think this man is good, it is a generalisation based on what I saw and heard about him, this does not imply that he is good in everything. If generalisation makes no sense, then same goes to opinion.
