From my point of view, JPA scholarship should act like a kind of financial aid for the SPM excellent scorers...

Both merit and income should be taken into same level of consideration before JPA scholarship is given...

Perhaps those who are rich enough to afford their further education and encounter no trouble in pursuing their favourite course should just give up this opportunity.... ( since they do not need the financial aid )

Someone wrote to The Star about this very issue. That author subscribe to the stand that it's unfair to discriminate against the rich for the scholarships.

I think a combination is worth pursuing; however, the income it should be based upon would be the students income, and not their parents. You have to want it and need it in my opinion. No point in funding someone who doesn't want to go to school anyway.

A response to this article.... Giving the poor deserving students a chance at higher education is the author's main idea...

Hence, after doing some calculation, ultra-rich family should be referred to those family with monthly income ( after tax ) of RM 4500....
I consider ultra rich families are those who had reached the maximum taxable income.

if the so-called rich kids r good enough, i dont see how we should deprive them of what they deserve. what? gonna rob tom to pay for harry now, r we?

imho, "i'm on a scholarship." certainly sounds better than "my dad's got everything covered.", although some might say "who cares about the way it sounds??". well, think of it this way: does "i got the damn scholarship over those rich ass kids who're better than i am in a lot of other ways just cause my dad hasnt got any savings for my education, plus he's broke. ha-ha-ha. serves them right for having rich dads that drives a porche while i dont." sound good to u at all?

or perhaps we can do it like the US: need-based. where the amount of financial aid given out is tailored according to one's family income. but i think this wont work in lazy malaysia cause it's too much hassle.

so u rich people out there, if the reason for u to NOT be granted certain scholarships is that u're not one of those "needy students.", blame your dad for being filthy rich.

I agree with what Ivonne said.. not only designers' accesories but came in Mercedes one of the latest series... cant recall the model. During intro session, some parents apparently hold executive posts in private company and some even managerial level.

Well, only god knows how the selections are being conducted ...

I agree that perhaps the most crucial point or purpose of the interview is to see how well a candidate can speak ...albeit with confidence, and speak fluently without fumbling etc. Remember to speak clearly .. no point rushing when talking.. as even if one would have said a lot maybe ended up no one could probably understand a word.

See? Oh yes I forgot about the positions too. Some parents are even "Director of this this and that that" and other "Manager of XX Bank". There goes. How sociable just and fair.

Hmm.. with no offend, my father is also holding a managerial position in a company. However, its not that v earn 10K or more..it depends..its within a range that is slightly above average.u have to also consider the no. of children that parents have to support, credit card loan due to jobless period(my dad was out of job once for 9 months), hse and car installment, education, petrol, utility....etc.. it comes down to be JUST ENOUGH.. Therefore, having a dad who holds a management post does nt equal to hav the ability to financially support all children's tertiary education.. Taylors? definitely out of the question for me!
