Have u watched TV series "House"? If u don't , nvm, i've one physician (internal medicine specialist) which completed her MD and specialty training in US come back serving in gov hospital, and all of us quite "Impressed" with her way of practise--->to do CT brain for ALL patient with HEADACHE! As US MD use to define headache as "CT-Positive Headache" or "CT-Negative Headache" which is not really practical and a waste of resources here. Definately the training at developed country is good(if u want to service in their country). However, i would suggest how about u complete your first degree MD here then proceed to oversea for specialty training which is much cost effective? Anyway, if u are from family which is really RICH (approaching one million for 5 years course) which money not even an issue that u should consider, then Congartulation! Go ahead.

I've always wanted 2 study medicine abroad and am curently waiting for jpa scholarship. I don't come from a rich family and I can't afford the fees. So if I can't get jpa, i'd probly go local. Besides, all the issues bout many med graduates not being recognised kinda made me wanting 2 study local. I think ur right bout getting my degree local 1st n den go oversea. Ur pretty experienced, so if u say it'll be just fine 2 study local, then i can breathe easily when i study med here. Hahaha

N yes, i watch House. Hehe

You're welcome. No matter where u from, what u do, and also WHERE u graduate, only u can make yourself a fortune, u can study local and Get MRCP (physician/paediatric) locally later and well recognized by oversea hospital (eg Singapore). And still, you've a higher degree which come from oversea.

i sense a tinge of sarcasm there. You dont have to cong"AR"tulate me if i can afford to study abroad.but at the same time i 'd really appreciate it you could remain within context here. Are u faulting me because i can afford to study in a developed country?

I just want to make some things clear. It seems that the local graduates love to harp on the fact that ct scan is easily available abroad.I agree that ct scans are easily available in most developed countries..But just in case you didnt kn ow 1 ct scan = 250 chest x -rays.An astute clinician will easily be able to decide when a CT scan is warranted for and when its not because no doctor will want to predispose a patient to such huge amounts of radiation and potentially put the patient at risk for other pathology( ie malignancies) down the road.Have you checked the CPG's in the United states for headaches ?if yeah show proof..dont tembak about the ct positive and ct negative headache.maybe you can tembak to the young recommers who have no experience in the medical field yet..but not everyone is that gulible or uninformed. All the CPGs in north america, australia, canada,UK other countries are evidence based not based on bullshit ( i deduce that was what you were trying to imply in your post).Dont generalize based on the American qualified internist at your hospital. If that's the case, there are hundreds of incompetent local medical graduates out there too.

i rest my case here.

Enough with the mutual aversion between local med graduates and overseas med graduates. I am so sick of it, especially after seeing some of the comments in Lim Kit Siang's blog comments (the one on JPA med scholars wishing to stay on for internship).

Some overseas med graduates who think that they are much better than their local counterparts, should really get themselves some mirrors. But local med graduates who keep on trying to lump all overseas med graduates as snobbish brads, should also try to get rid of such unfair generalisation.

The way I see it, this is very much like Chinese-Ed and English-Ed issue.

To hell with generalisation and mutual disparagement.

yeah im not too sure about the analogy you gave as an example but whatever it is,i guess there's no point. After all,i wouldnt be crossing paths with any of these local graduates at any point of my education or career,so i should refrain from commenting as im not gaining anything from it.
