On blood donation, you could try out at Tabung Darah Negara, which is located opposite IJN and next to National Library. It is a great place. I have done blood donation during lunch break. So, it is sufficient time to do that. You would need to eat a little (may be biscuits etc), before blood donation.

Unless there is a big group there, it won't take very long.

Hope to see more ReComers share more resources on organ donation, which hopefully could encourage more ReComers to donate their organ, as well as create greater awareness.

140/90 is the standard high blood pressure definition, but it's always good to keep it at around or lower than 120/80.

I don't think a high blood pressure is contraindicative of blood donating. What they usually test for before hand is your iron I think. I'll check.

The Red Cross Website had a very good list of conditions that are incompatible with blood donating, here's the link of the FAQ:

If high blood pressure is not a contraindicative of blood donation, why the blood pressure of the blood donors need to be measured during the brief examination before their blood is collected?

I'm wondering too why there's a age limit for blood donation... Why those below 18 years old are prohibited from donating blood? It makes no sense to me...

I am not entirely sure, but I am guessing that if someone has very low blood pressure, one of the possible factors is low blood volume, and in that case blood donation is discouraged since losing blood in that situation may make that person hypoxic (low oxygen supply to body tissues).

Haha!

By the way, I came across this touching poem about dying and organ donation:

Quote:
To Remember Me
(Robert N. Test)

The day will come when my body will lie upon a white sheet neatly tucked under four corners of a mattress located in a hospital busily occupied with the living and the dying. At a certain moment, a doctor will determine that my brain has ceased to function and that, for all intents and purposes, my life has stopped.

When that happens, do not attempt to instill artificial life into my body by the use of a machine. And don?t call this my deathbed. Let it be called the Bed of Life, and let my body be taken from it to help others lead fuller lives.

Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby?s face, or love in the eyes of a woman. Give my heart to a person whose own heart has caused nothing but endless days of pain.

Give my blood to the teenager who was pulled from the wreckage of his car, so that he might live to see his grandchildren play. Give my kidneys to one who depends on a machine to exist. Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve of my body and find a way to make a crippled child walk.

Explore every corner of my brain. Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that, someday, a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her window.

Burn what is left of me and scatter the ashes to the winds to help the flowers grow. If you must bury something, let it be my faults, my weaknesses, and all prejudices against my fellow man. Give my sins to the devil. Give my soul to God.

If, by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.

Drink lots of water the day before if you're gonna donate blood. Helps a lot. The last time I went, the guy next to me had to switch arms halfway cos they couldn't get enough blood from the first arm.
