No, it's not stupid. Organ donation can be viewed by many as a very difficult decision as it involves more trauma to the families after the death of the person.

But you won't feel pain (you're already dead) .

I think many people can't accept the issue of defacement although I believe the surgeons try their best to conceal the sutures and scars as far as they can. For internal organs such as heart and lung, I think there isn't really a big issue. Cornea donation may potentially be an issue but noone leaves the eye open during the viewing sessions.

If a person intends to become a organ donor, he/she don't need to wait until the day of his/her death....

We can make a living donation of organ too. The example of organs that could be supplied by living donor:

1.)Kidney ( common )
2.)Liver ( common )
3.)Lung ( a bit rare )
4.)Intestine ( rare )
5.)Pancreas ( common )
6.)Heart ( extremely rare )

It's a good news... But somehow i guess only few people will be interested in it!

Where do you get that piece of information from?

While liver and kidney are feasible and sometimes done, it's not exactly recommended unless there are emergency situations. I haven't really heard about other live transplants you mentioned above.

i dunno about malays and indians, but superstitious chinese arent keen in leaving the earth with an "incomplete body", si3 wu2 quan2 si1.

maybe some awareness campaign ought to be targeted to the malays since their donating rate is far below what's expected of them, having the largest population and all.

Never heard of it before

It should not be much of a problem, as the number of people with these thinking are minimal.

Organ donation needs more awareness, do you guys know what's the hotline for organ donation in Malaysia?

Start by donating blood at blood donation drives, they visit some collages sometimes.

Blood donation is pretty much painless, and you just lie down there and relax until it's done. Afterwards you feel really satisfied that you've accomplished something. That's what I felt anyway. I strongly recommend any able body to do their part for society, as we are nearing the holidays, blood requirements rise as well.

Well...it's an extremely noble deed i guess.
And to encourage more to sign up is not difficult but ain't simple. If you have time, you can hold an awareness campaign. Do your own slides, presentation, etc...Those people from the resource centre are like so friendly and helpful. I did organize one such event in my school, and we got 91 individuals to register, far beyond what i expected actually. Thanks to ipoh hospital!!!

And now, if only i have the time, manpower and cash...to do it again.
