Quote:
What is the 30-Hour Famine?

The 30-Hour Famine is a global movement against hunger and poverty. It is an experiential, life-changing camp aimed at spreading awareness about global poverty, and raising funds to improve the lives of needy children and communities.

At 30-Hour Famine, Campers fast for 30 hours in solidarity with millions who go hungry because of war, disasters and poverty. During the camp, they gain insight to pressing global issues via talks, simulation games, and group activities. Best of all, they know their hunger is bringing hope to children and communities because they raise/contribute funds for them prior to the camp.

The first Famine was held in Canada in 1971. Today, the Famine runs in 10 countries around the world.

What is so special about 30-Hour Famine 2007?

This year marks the 10th Famine in Malaysia, coinciding with World Vision Malaysia?s 10th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, the Famine will be bilingual (English and Mandarin) for the first time ever, and, we?re throwing open the doors to 5,000 campers! The theme for the year is ?hungry for hope??

The Famine will also spread its wings to East Malaysia. The East Malaysian Famine will be bilingual as well.

Where does the money go?

In the past 9 years, close to RM10 million has been raised via the Famine in Malaysia, improving lives both globally and locally. Likewise, Famine donations this year will have both global and local impact.

30-Hour Famine beneficiaries (West Malaysia) for 2007 are :

* Vietnam: Ba Thuoc is to the south of Hanoi, and encompasses 22 farming villages.
- On average, they earn RM75 monthly.
- Famine funds will go towards improving the lives of the community. Initiatives will include
health care, education, clean water, food security and economic development.

* World Vision HOPE Fund was set up in response to the devastating spread of HIV/AIDS:
- Prevention: Educating vulnerable groups in order to reduce infection rates.
- Care: Caring for the infected/affected; including children who have been orphaned by
HIV/AIDS.
- Advocacy: Lobbying for policies that are in the best interest of the affected/infected.

*The HOPE Fund will benefit World Vision's international projects as well as local
HIV/AIDS organisations.

* World Vision Malaysia Children Development Fund supports child-related development
work.
Current projects include:
- World Vision Uzbekistan Children in Crisis Programme, World Vision Korea Food for Life and

It is an honour that can join such camp, well, how many ppl are predicted to join the camp in Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur ?

I prefer this as UTP is located in Southest Perak and Perak is Next to Selangor.

The English camp has been held for several years. I was there for the past 2 years. So, it is definitely not the 1st time.

Having said that, it is a great event, and I definitely encourage more ReComers to join! I am joining too! Lets hope to have a large number of ReComers joining!

See you all there!

alice, thanks for your great interest..

in order to get to Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil, you need to take KTM from Shah Alam to KL Sentral. Then, just transfer to StarLine in KL Sentral (not PUTRA LRT) to Stadium Bukit Jalil. It's very easy actually and you can just ask anyone around there if you really can't find the way. So, no worries..

Cheers!!

p/s: anyone will be joining the east Malaysia one??
