Computer Aided Designn / Drafting
is an important solution in Designing

We now have high end 3D parametric feature CAD Solutions to make designing an easy and interesting job. sometimes CAD is integrated with CAE and CAM to smoothen PLM flow, making the whole system highly effective.

CAD is becoming a common skill as many students are learning it in higher education.

NX is a high end CAD solution along with CATIA and Pro/ENGINEER

my friend who used NX commented that it is user friendly. For me ProENGINEER is not so hard, only that one has to take time to master it's advance features.

Solidwork and Autodesk are mid range Solutions and they lack features that NX or ProE has.

Good questions,

some books available on market (amazon) can be expensive (around 100 bucks) and it covers only basic skill.

The best option is to learn it from certified training centers. However, the cost or such training is quite high. That is why an advance user is quite rare and having a lot of advantages over regular users.

I think pd Solutions in Singapore is offering such courses in Pro/ENGINEER. you can give a try.

depends on your industry and function, and also depends on the company's resources.

some poorer company might not affort to buy high end solutions so they might use Autodesk or Solidworks.

NX, CATIA and ProE are good so it depends on what solutions the company choose to use. these thread solutions are quite common so you just have to pick one of them. Mine is Pro/ENGINEER.

CATIA is used widely in automobile industry and it deals a lot with surface modeling.
