Well big bang is just another theory. . and theories are hard to prove. maybe someone can come up with new idea of existance next time. and proves those theories.
I think you have mistaken about the definition of "Theory". A Theory is something that has been proven over and over and over again by tests and observations. They have stood through this many tests, and have came out fitting into the observation and results. The two great theories of the past century, The Special and General Theory of Relativity, are now called theories, because, despite their outlandish and un-common sense predictions, they were proven correct by thousands of tests and observations.
The Big-Bang "Theory" is called a theory because it fits in with observations done by astronomers, and there is still nothing else to displace it... yet.
By the way, the "God" in Stephen Hawking's book doesn't necessary refer to Theistic "God" that many of us believe in.
