English Idioms for essay

can anyone share me some idioms....

this is one of my fav
turns of mind-piece of mind/mindset



can we share our vocabulary too?as in exchanging certain bombastic words which pull your essay marks up..



(hope the mods don't mind me posting this topic in the wrong place.i think it would be better for me to separate this from the english topic since that one has a wide coverage..thought it would more specific here..sorry..)

i would say using bombastic words just to pull up your essay mark trick will not work, unless u fully understand those words, and your vocabulary throughout the essay is consistent, or else, those words will be odd because they don't fit in, giving the grader an impression that the writer is not using 'suitable' words because most of the time, bombastic words have more 'restricted' meaning, and really, unless ur command of english is really good, where u fully understand the words u use, or else, don't push it too hard... or it will really backfire...

just my 2 cents.

want to improve the level of ur command of english ?? i would say start reading more english materials(fiction, nonfiction, news article)...

if u wanna make ur english essay bombastic,
u need to use some NLP application like writing stuffs that involves many senses like visual, auditory, sensory, taste etc.
different ppl hv diff preference of sense in their thinking process so by involving senses u make ur essay interesting, colourful, balanced, whimsical and great....


instead of using bombastic words that might burden some readers,
try sensual sentences like this :


It APPEARS (v) that our FOCUS (v) of DISCUSSION (a) should not be HEAVY (s) so that our AUDIENCE (a) can GRASP (s) what we are trying to (SHOW (v).

etc.

narrative example :

have u SEEN but a WHITE lily GROW
Before RUDE hands have TOUCHED it?
Have you FELT the wool of beaver
or swan's down, ever?
Have you TASTED the bad of the bee?

So WHITE
so SOFT
so SWEET is she

thanks for you advice ..at least now i know what to do besides just reading endlessly..one more thing..i don't seems to use and get adapted to those writing ways even though i have read them..i mean i read articles and storybooks..>> but when comes to writing an essay,i just don't know how to write that good..and as interesting as it is in those article.anyone can show me an alternative ?when ppl say they read right,do they also write down the nice phrases ?

I think memorizing nice phrases works very well for me. I got a A1 for English GCE O Level but my English vocab is not very good. So, I think you should focus more on grammar.

Exam is coming, so you should master essay writing especially grammar by hook or by crook!
