See the pattern? Those who never tried this problem before try to answer it... Write down what you think is next in the sequence. Those who've seen this before please let others try first...

You shouldn't put the topic as a math problem! That's outright misleading!! It's more of an IQ question( on all the occasions that I saw the question, it was listed as an IQ question)

If you could solve that, try this
Petal around the rose

I got the answer on my first attempt after reading the background.[/url]

Nope... have to think out of the box... Like what chiunlin said... it's not exactly a maths question, more of an IQ question... haha... Good luck!

Actually it can be followed by anything since I can create a pattern from any finite sequence.

But I think you're seeking for
211213

You can create a pattern from any finite sequence? Hah, that's aamzing! Let's try this: 302 1020 1 58 45 1280 17 13 380

Anyway, the answer for the first question should be ******. (Update: I deleted the answer since we are required to let others try first) Prince, this question was used as the "think out of the box" demonstration in the book "the arts and crafts of problem solving" by Paul Zeitz.

Agree that it's more of an IQ question, but you are not wrong altogher to classify it as a math question. Remember anything concerned with finding pattern and untangling a knot is considered mathematical problem in nature.

Anyway, the petal around the rose is pretty interesting. I solved it after 5 to 10 minutes last time.

This reminds me: I have the book right in my room! Ah yeah, it's on pg xx of the book, although it's in a slightly different form. Here's another question from the book:
Quote:
What is the next letter in the sequence O,T,T,F,F,S,S,E ...?
And here's another similar but easier one that I once read in a mensa book
Quote:
3 1 4 1 5 ?
