Discussion: JPA scholarships 2012 for Pre-U holders- Petition

Hi guys, I'm in a similar situation as you guys right now. Only thing is, my course choice isn't exactly your usual heard of courses.

Preferred University offer(s): Conditional offers from Royal Veterinary College (Uni of London), Edinburgh, Glasgow and Bristol.
Course: Veterinary Medicine
Current status: Due to take my final A-Level exams in May/June, results in August. Predicted results A*AA
Special Circumstances: single parent, retired, course very costly
Other comments/ideas:

Also, I find the list of top unis given by JPA to be not justified.. A university like RVC would not be listed because it is a specialised one, and not able to offer a wide range of courses.

The very notion of the reason behind this group forming is that anyone reading this thread could just take up the strategy here and do it on their own, without commenting. Every joining is a new rival for the scholarship. They could even find Dato-dato to support themselves only, realizing that involving others could be threatening to their applications. However one's voice is never heard by the JPA. It's therefore my intention to gather more people here, meanwhile proceed to find Dato-dato or any Tan Sri to support us. Easier to convince them as our group is not small. I have to again agree to your second thought- expanding the group.

But seriously, take my last advice. Keep a local backup. There is nothing wrong with studying locally unless circumstance forbids it so. Education isn't always about getting the best, because the best is reserved for those who can demand for it or those who have been lucky enough to be given the privilege. Your final certificate might not be as pretty as those who graduated from overseas counterparts, but if you can work harder than them, your gain.

Good point, I think I see what JPA is doing. The usual funds to fund PILN 2012 is kept for the bursary students of SPM 2011 when they got their uni's offer in 2014. And the funds for PILN 2014 is for those non-bursary students who got their top uni offer in 2014. So technically, there's no fund for us people who got the uni's offer in 2012. This is what i see in JPA's planning, feel free to correct me. While you have my full support, I hope everyone don't get their hopes to high. And a suggestion here, maybe the thread started can come up with something more 'physical' like an actual group and gathering people of the same likes. Have some actual meetings and spread the info by the word of mouth and through facebook. Get everyone who got their offers together to meet up and have a drink with some discussion. Even if we can't convince JPA, there's really nothing for us to lose. All i see is gain, in friendship, broadening perspectives and enlarging your social network. If no one starts a group, I may consider starting one 'Physical' one in June. In the meantime, I'm quite caught up with exams so i'll just see how this group grows first. cheers

Dear all, I commend your effort and for that I am willing to assists you all. I am graduate from LSE, an ex-scholar and currently a qualified lawyer. If everyone is truly genuine in giving this a try, then all should get together and approach JPA with letters and offers. I will try to rope in the press as well adovocate your case for you all. Importantly, everyone has to agree to come together and approach JPA together instead of individually because JPA will just turn you all down individually. Of course you can try yourself individually if you prefer. Its up to you. However, I must qualify, those who intends to participate must hold an offer from the top Unis list in JPA or there is no ground to advocate. If its conditional offer, it must be fulfilled through the A2 examination. Feel free to contact and liase with me. I am doing this because I am the good friend of a late Cambridge scholar in similar problem before. I do not want to see Malaysians losing opp to study abroad because of money and govt policies.

Was your friend Terrence? I suggest we make a facebook group first and then later come out for a physical meeting. For those who have conditional letters, their results will only be out in August or so, at that time it might be too late. For those who have an unconditional letter then all is well. OMG, YOU KNEW TERENCE? So sad :'( He was my current college mate's brother. He was seriously impacted by the passing, and it happened right during our AS examinations for A-level. You are so kind dear sir. I commend such wonderful efforts. God bless you Hope you guys get help in the end.

I think basically MOE fund everything for the SPM 2011 people so there aren't any fund for us who gain admission in top uni for 2012.Anyway,I am still supporting this petition and think we should give it a try(no harm to us).Good luck.
