That 2 years you use up to redo a hard exam could be put to better use. I'm sorry you failed STPM, but that's life. Maybe you are just not suited for something very academic, so it's time to move on. I suggest go for a diploma. At the very least, a diploma graduate could work part-time here and there whenever the chance arises. Just make sure you allocate enough time to fulfil your required academic responsibilities though. Besides that, the time difference in getting a degree faster between the options of a diploma or foundation first matters little to me. It's not even a large time gap for that matter, and a diploma will better prepare you for your degree studies anyway.
I think it's best not to stress your family financially just to get a private education. UTAR is good enough in your case.
