NUS Engineering 2012-2013

Hey guys,

This is my first thread on this forum, so I'm not really sure if I'm doing this right. I just have a question:

I've taken Edexcel A levels. I've received 2A* and 2A's. Not the best scores, I know, but I believe I'm good enough in the international/national competitions department. I've received a bronze medal in an international Olympiad in Korea in 2008, and have taken part in two competitions(1 math, 1 science) based in Australia for both of which I received distinction certificates for ranking in the top 7% and 12% in my region respectively. I've also been ranked 8 in my country in a national Mathematics competition. What do you think are my chances of entering one of these in NUS:
1) Mechanical Engineering
2) computer science
3) computer engineering
4) electrical engineering.

I've also added that as part of my extra-curricular activities, i've taken part in teaching mathematics to children who have been orphaned by a cyclone in my country in 2008. Also to show my interest/passion for the subjects I want to learn, I've said that I've been working on my second robot(not sure if that would help, but what the hell). Thanks guys ;)

Oh and I have an IELTS score of 8.5 with a mediocre score of just 7 in writing. I hope this helps.

I think you have a high chance. Are you applying elsewhere as well? Not sure if the robot project will help for NUS but it definitely will for US universities.

I think you do stand a good chance, judging from the various competitions and community service you have taken part in. However, there is no guarantee. You may try to apply under discretionary admission. Good luck!

Xyyeh, I don't have SAT scores, so I don't think there are many US universities I can join. I'm only applying for NTU, NUS and Monash. NUS is my first choice, but I'm aware that the entrance is VERY restricted for international students. That's why I was worried that my grades may not be enough. I heard admission into NTU is even harder. Is that true?

Not really sure about the admission into NTU is harder than NUS. For local applicants, the admission to NTU engineering is slightly easier than NUS engineering though.

that is only applicable for JC students who have taken the Singapore-Cambridge A levels which is far different and more difficult to score than the other A level boards in Malaysia.

oh well. Looks like I'll just have to live with the uncertainty for a couple more months! Thanks guys.
