Lol, the universities ranking isn't taken into consideration last year, i suppose. As long as is medic, in Edinburgh or Monash (not even top 20) they got it. My brother with both Imperial and Yale offers fail to get it, coz not medic ==

Hi, does this mean that if I get an offer from Monash for MBBS, it will be worth my while to apply for this scholarship? Since Monash academic year starts in March 2012, can I then apply if I receive an offer (around January 2012). Is there a possibility of paying for fee deposit ourselves first, before getting replies from JPA? Thanks in advance.

if you ask JPA abt the ivy league setara scholarship now, they will either tell you 'belum pasti lagi' or 'tiada peruntukan'

Also unless monash australia shot up from position 178th to Top 20 in next Times Edu ranking to be release sometime around Sep/Oct 2011, you stand as much a chance of being given JPA scholarship as i am to become the next king of england.

Instead of submitting in a scholarship application for Ivy League dan Setaraf, why not submit in a application letter for Medicine Course. Your cover letter can be 'Tajaan Tambahan JPA - Kursus Perubatan Luar Negara' rather than Ivy League. Let them consider on the basis that u r a future doctor of malaysia, rather than a graduate from an Ivy League.

I mean, they are THE Public Service Depatment- in which they are supposed to serve the public as their name suggests.

However, I am not sure whether this would work or not.

My friend did what you said, JPA instead asked him to apply for a JPA study loan (Max RM250K). You hv to foot the 1st year tuition fee and living expenses yourself, JPA will only give you the money on yr 2nd year. But then RM250K hardly cover a third of yr total education bill for 5 years

I wrote in to JPA/Kementerian Pertahan/MOE that I might be future Malaysia Nuclear Engineer from USA. It does not work and they asked me to apply for RM250k loan. -.-

There is a JPA sponsored M'sian guy who is doing post graduate degree in Artificial Intelligence ( A.I) in Edinburgh. A.I is not about robotic but cyborg technology ie: part human part machine. Don't be surprise, our govt need people like that to research into prosthetic equipment for the disabled.

So Nuclear Engineering is possible, but likely to be on Post graduate study..

I asked based on what was posted by the forumer who mentioned Edinburgh and Monash for Medic.

If JPA only looks at ANU, Sydney, and Melbourne, then the only scholarships for Medicine are for those applicants who would have already completed their basic bachelor's degree, as all 3 universities now offer Graduate Entry programs, no more undergraduate programs.

Till now, I only met Medic studying in Edinburgh via IMU twinning, not from Ivy league setara cos Edinburgh only get into the Top 20 for Year 2009 ( one year only), for Year 2010, they dropped to 40th position.

However last year they do sent students for dentistry in King's College ( ranked 22th ) cos not all UK Universities in the World Top 20 conduct dentistry courses. The same goes with Vet Medicine, only Cambridge & Edinburgh hv this course but not oxford, imperial & UCL and also pharmacy to Bath

If you look at UK Research Assessment Evaluation aka RAE 2008, certain uni are famous for certain course eg: King's for dentistry, Edinburgh for BioMedical ( they cloned Dolly the sheep here and are currently the Top 15 biomedical research centre in the world), and Bath for Pharmacy. Hence JPA do known to make exception by selecting scholars outside the Top 20 list at times.

Btw, FYi, i knew of an ex-JPA PILN scholar bio-med student who got released cos JPA couldn't get her a job in Malaysia given the fact there are little govt-linked biomed research centre in M'sia.

She got a job in Singapore one week later.

So be careful not to pick some weird weird course. when govt couldn't find you a proper job, they might either release you or ask you to become some physics school teacher.
