Hey ya'll I'm a student from up north who may be coming down to KL to further my studies. How many of you here are studying in KL and drive from your house to uni? If everything goes according to plan I would be staying with my extended family and travel to uni. I'd be staying in PJ and would be studying at HELP soon I'd like to gain an insight on the travelling students life. It takes me 15 mins to get to HELP with clear traffic using the highway in front of Tropicana Mall. That was on Monday afternoon. When I left HELP in the evening the traffic was terrible!! This was at the exit point after making a round from PBD block. (The roads are forked, jam was on the left) A family member drove me there so I merely observed. She took the right turn and drove all the way to Mount Kiara, passed by the National Science Centre and drove for about 25 mins before we finally reached home! Is there any form of public transport that goes from 1U and passes by HELP PBD? Or do you guys just brave the traffic and drive? Thanks so much for your time and feedback!

Hi you seem new I'll be studying in HELP too in September for my undergraduate. I stay within driving distance but will need to wait a month or two for my car. First off, you have just faced what is normal in KL/PJ lifestyle ; crazy traffic jams. That highway in front of Tropicana is possibly referring to the LDP unless you are referring to the one goes up a flyover ; that's the Sprint highway. Where your relative took you was probably I'm guessing along the Sprint highway stretch. There is public transport to 1U from HELP and you can always refer to HELP's website if you forget the bus you have to take. The RapidKL bus you need to take is U86. If you want to avoid traffic, it's a matter of planning when to travel. Traffic jam is a matter of timing in that part of KL. I also need to familiarize myself with the time I need to travel to avoid the jam come September Hope it helps

Its the U82 RapidKL bus that you need to take. It depends on which HELP are you going to, the HELP main block or the HELP academy. They have different bus stops but the bus pass both areas. Less than a 5 min walk away from HELP to the bus stop. About the way that you mentioned, I think she went towards Bukit Damansara to avoid the traffic jam at the highway. I guess you will have to get use to it. The traffic jams at peak hours are normal. I take the bus from HELP to OneUtama everyday So I know.

If you are planning to drive, parking would be an issue I heard. But you will get used to it cos most KL uni face that problem.

Just to add, I am a current HELP student, so you can ask me anything bout studying here.

My former institution KDU is also notorious for shortage of carparks lol. That's just part and parcel of uni life in KL I guess. Wonder if coming early will make a difference lol. I know of HELP providing a free shuttle service to and fro the main building and the academy but even that is subjected to peak hours too lol. Chelsea, you are under the A-level program there right? Sponsored by Shell if I'm not mistaken?

Yup you are right. You have very good memory. I heard most of the parking spaces are snapped up as early as 8 am. I dont drive so everything I am saying is just hearsay. Yeah about the bus you are right. I thought HELP will be moving to the new campus soon in Subang. So hopefully you guys will have a nicer campus.

But you are not doing your undergraduate there right? I recall you mentioned Curtin before My friend is there pursuing Chemical Engineering. No different from KDU then.. I use to wake up at 6:15am, wait for my friend to pick me up at 7:00am then off we go and reach by 7:45am. There's still parking but barely enough to choose from. We once came at 8:30am and that's it, every lot taken. So, looks like it's going to be the same routine for the next 3 years OK thanks a lot

Thanks for the reply Yeah I am. My program begins early Sept. You? I talked to the people there and seen their timetable. I recall a flyover, guess you're right. Are you using the Sprint highway too? Class ends by 5.30pm..Peak hours so no way to escape. The July intakers have Mondays off, lucky them! I'll need to familiarize myself with both the time and the roads. Planning a road trip down in Aug to drive around And yes they do provide shuttle services every 10-15 mins. I've taken it once. As for carparks, apparently there's lots more around Giant at PBD, in basements under I,J and K. Parking lots are connected and utilize the coupon/prepaid system. Hope this would be the solution for classes from late morning So you're gonna drive...How long does it take to get to HELP from your place?

Hi Nice to meet you here! Thanks for the reply. My course will be taught at Wisma HELP. Yeah probably...But it took a much longer time to get home. Passed by many places so I can't recall the route properly :/ So how do you get to uni, assuming the ride to 1U is your way home? Do you know how much the hostels cost? I may choose to bunk in for a month or two prior to exams if things get heavy or when practical assessment is in progress. As for the Subang campus...Unfortunately neither of us would get to experience it as I was told that merely the first phase would be completed in 2013. Meaning to say the whole campus would probably be ready (admin's estimation) by 2015 In which...May be a blessing in disguise for me because Subang is further away from my place.

Well, since we already know each other on facebook since a long time ago LOL, discuss there instead for future replies. Rather not continuously and unnecessarily write long replies here. Sept same as you, only I'm in UOL Economics, you're in Law. We'll still probably meet during orientation unless it's a huge crowd Either I will be using that or Penchala Link. I'll probably still take Sprint Highway and just go early. Oh good tip, but not sure how to find the Giant parking yet If no jam, a good 15-20 minutes. Heavy traffic must give myself at least 45 minutes

Long time ago..? Haha Ok sure.. Just that I find posting here useful because of the high visibility. Admin mentioned orientation's on 3rd. Yeah it's gonna be huge. My department's expecting approx 100 students. Gosh. Need to wake up early again! No different from school life :/ Last year I can get up at 7 for 8am classes since academic block is just 10 mins by foot from my hostel block. I never knew a Giant existed there so ditto.
