Never been to Singapore and never research on NUS, so take my opinion with a great pinch of salt. I think to some extent it really boils down to your personality and goals.
I am also traumatized by one Singaporean at my uni
(e.g. When professor bought pizza for the class -- he said out loud "must eat more. You already pay for the tuition.")
I was interviewed for NUS ASEAN scholarship. Personally I found the interviewer's attitude to be unpleasant. NTU interviewers were really agreeable however. It was a pleasant experience actually. Actually learnt something out of it.
