Secondly, I doubt Ivies will just admit anyone with good grades. It's said that we'll have to win some international competitions or great events? (Is this true? o.o) But with less than half a year, that seems impossible.

This is stressful... D:
The SAT subject tests cover more topics than SPM but covers less material than A levels, save for a few chapters that are not tested at A levels. Waive TOEFL if you are able to by writing in formally or by scoring a high score for SAT 1's critical reading (aim for 650 and above).

If you want to apply this year, you should start preparing NOW (and there are many things you can do!).

About the Ivies, it's more complicating than that. The short version of the advice I can give you is this: just be yourself when you apply. Kudos!

As stated above, just be yourself! =) And although Ivies do look for more than good grades, I can tell you its not just about winning international events or being a national champion. It is about you and your personality and what you can bring to their institution. In short, whether you "fit" that university and vice versa. But on a whole, the admission process is complex.

Oh and I'm sure you don't need to win an international event to be considered by Ivies. I didn't even win any national event before and I got admitted so yeah, just be yourself!

On the flip side, there are kids who win international events and got rejected. Talk to me if you want horror stories. Lol. I seem to be a magnet for it - horror stories. HAHAHAHA.

So seriously - be yourself!

About the deadlines, it depends on the universities which you want to apply to but yes, generally the deadline is January 1st.

On liberal arts colleges, from what I know and heard, JPA is really picky about the university rankings. Normally, liberal arts colleges would not choose to be listed or would be ranked lowly in university rankings such as QS and Times because these rankings consider research grants, publications and other stuff which do not reflect the quality of the undergraduate programme. Typically, these liberal arts colleges give their fullest attention to undergraduates thus "hurting" their rankings, at least in the eyes of JPA. And yes, break the bond and you will have to pay back whatever they have spent on you. Every single cent.

Well, I cannot speak for the programs at Intec, Taylors, and Inti but here at Uniten, the foundation classes which form the core of my ACTP here actually are degree-level courses. So even if I fly after a year here, I might still be able to transfer the credits I earned in my foundation year. It is a case-by-case basis. My senior, who got into CMU for example, managed to transfer a whole year's worth of Physics, Chemistry and Calculus. Heard he had to take Biology since he had no other sciences to take
Gah that's sad. I kinda like the environment of LACs whereby classes are smaller and you get better student-professor interaction.

Cool. I've a friend who got JPA for Engineering in US and he's going to UNITEN too.

How many credits do we accumulate for the foundation year and first year of degree (assuming it's done in Malaysia) respectively?

Never heard of this since I got waived for Physics, Chemistry, Calculus and Biology... didn't have to take any of the sciences...

Well, as like any other local foundation program in Malaysia, the number of credits earned is 50. I am not too sure about the first year degree here however. But do take note that not all credits earned are transferable. It is under the jurisdiction of the university you are going to whether accept the credits you have earned in Malaysia so it is some sort of case by case.

Hehe wow! Well, then again, I am not too sure how my senior did. It is based on what I heard. But yeah, his Physics, Calculus and Chemistry got waived too.

If you don't mind, who's your senior?

Besides, if you already have the required sciences CMU can't force you to take any other science courses. I'm pretty sure this is how it works in most universities.
