ReCom 2.0 Tips!

If you are like me, you revel in exploration and discovery of handy features in forums like ReCom. Now that ReCom has switched to vBulletin, I thought it would be good for everyone to share their personal tips and tricks about the forums.

Let me get the ball rolling.

1. (Firefox / Opera specific) Get new post via shortcut. Personally I prefer to do more of my browsing via keyboard instead of mouse, due to the relatively easiness of keyboard over mouse on a laptop. Now, if you want to get new posts in ReCom, just right click on "new posts" on the navigation bar, then save it to your bookmark. Then go to the bookmark that you have just saved, right click and choose "properties". Then set a keyword for that particular link, for example "recomnew", "rpost", "rnew" or whatever you like. The next time, just click on "Ctrl - L", then type the keyword you just chose, and enter. Trust me, you will follow up on ReCom's posts easier that way (and hence become more addicted ).

2. (Firefox specific) (Very ReCommended) Tired of clicking "next page" incessantly? NO MORE! There's a nifty feature you can install to enable automatic streaming of all pages in one thread without clicking next page. First you need to install greasemonkey. Then install this script called "Endless vBulletin Forum Pages". After that, go to "Manage User Scripts" under Greasemonkey menu, and add "*recom.org/*" (without inverted commas) to the inclusion list. Congratulations, now you will enjoy automatic streaming forum pages in ReCom!

Link directly to specific post
Instead of taking the URL in the browser address bar that link to the thread, you can link to a specific post by right-clicking the #N (N is a number) link on the top right hand side of the post display box and choose "Copy Shortcut" (IE) or "Copy Link Location" (Firefox)

Sometimes, you don't want to link to just the post, you would rather want to link to the post displayed along the whole thread. In that case, just change the "showpost" in the URL to "showthread" and leave the rest unchanged.

Or taking the example above, try these two links:
http://www.recom.org/forum/showpost.php?p=182817
http://www.recom.org/forum/showthread.php?p=182817
