#1 Old 04-02-2008 Default Microsoft Take Over of Yahoo!

Microsoft is attempting a take-over of Yahoo! and Google seems to be trying to help Yahoo! fend off this take-over of Yahoo!

What do you guys think about this deal?

Would you side with Microsoft? Google? Is this merger good for the industry? Is this merger good for the consumer?

On the other hand, Yahoo! is now considering an alliance with Google to rebuff MS. The deal might have in their minds, undervalued Yahoo!

Anyway, the merger could turn bothways, good or bad. It might be the break that MS is looking for in the search market, or it will bring the whole company down..

from my point of view, i think MS should keep to what it does the best, writing softwares. Vista is what happens when the company sidetracks way too much from it's core business.

I thought operating system is MS' core business (apart from the office suite)?

Well, that's the cash cow for MS. Apart from that, most games produced by their gaming division are also very popular titles: Age of [insert your fav. series here], MS flight simulator, Halo series, Gears of War for the X-Box comes into mind.

In the server arena, they have yet to encounter a good enough rival to their active directory server applications, though most of the servers in the world are actually linux machines.

Their mobile division also writes the ever popular windows mobile operating systems. (I would really like for them to improve here, the current versions just sucks big time IMO, compared to blackberry, symbian)

Bill Gates was quoted a long time ago that the core business of MS is to write and sell softwares (operating systems qualifies as software as well), and like i said, they should stick to what they do best...

I would prefer google to take over, just because google seemed like a more creative company than microsoft. However ultimately I would still rather Yahoo! be independant of these two giants.. Diversity is better don't you think?

If Google do that, the antitrust legislators will be all over it in no time... Just like MS in the late 90s
